Game Of The Week
This week’s game comes from my last year’s gold medal contributor, my last year’s silver medal contributor, an honorable mention contributor, and me. The four of us met face to face to face to face in the final round of the team event, which Brian Wall likes to call the “Team Championship” despite the fact that no such title exists.
I was playing Renae Delaware in some blitz games when the teams were chosen so we agreed to be a team. Brian Wall had already chosen to play with Tom Mullikin since Brian and Renae don’t play well together. I think it has to do with the fact that Brian likes to hit his partner on the head when the partner makes a mistake, and Renae hits back.
Tom didn’t seem to mind the abuse since he was only getting hit a couple times each game. I think Brian was being nicer than usual since he was ruining some of Tom’s best moves [see 38]. While Brian and Tom were the “Skipper and Gilligan” team, Renae and I were the “Alice and Ralph Kramden” team.
We did well in the first game, but after the game with Virgil McGuire and Ken, the sparks started to fly.
Alice says, "Oh Ralph, how could you take that pawn when we had mate in 7?"
Ralph mutters, “Homina, homina.” Later, Alice loses the exchange.
Ralph cries, “Aaaah HA! What was that?”
Alice responds, “You were moving too slow.”
Ralph returns with, “One of these days, Alice, one of these days…BANG! ZOOM!”
So, if the Skipper, Gilligan, Alice and Ralph ever got together to play a game of chess, this is how it would probably go.
I added question marks by all of Alice’s moves (Fritz added the double question marks) so you can tell them apart from Ralph’s, and I added exclamation marks by all of Gilligan’s moves [I gave him a double on 38] so you can tell them apart from the Skipper’s (notice how the Skipper often makes double moves!).

This Week In Chess

On February 22, the CSCC had 19 members attend the evening’s festivities. In the USCF-rated matches (G90), newcomer Mike Davis dispatched the veteran Allan Ufer while Richard Cordovano outlasted Tony Telinbacco.
Eight players teamed up for the main event, a Team Tournament (G15). There were no rules regarding the formation of teams, but they turned out to be fairly equal. One team member was supposed to make all the odd numbered moves while the other member made the evens without any communication between the members. Here are the results:

Places 2nd through 4th were determined by a G/5 double RR playoff. Notable accomplishment: Renae drew an A-player (Ted), and had the expert on the ropes; Fritz says a +11 score before losing with the wrong continuation.
