Game Of The Week
Before I got sick, I played in the Colorado Springs Open. My last 2 rounds were an adventure. I skipped breakfast and arrived late for my 4th round game. In addition to having no food, my wife locked herself out of the house, but I figured I would be done by noon and would have a nice long break to recuperate and let my wife in the house.
Well, as it turns out, I got stuck in the longest USCF game I have ever played (97 moves, over 6 hours). So, now the 5th round was starting, I still hadn’t eaten anything all day, and the wife had given up hope that I would be coming for her.
I decided food was more important than the last round game (and the wife) so I made my moves quickly and enjoyed a sandwich when I thought my opponent would be taking a while. I was just hoping to be equal by the time I finished lunch.
However, my opponent was going after my c4 pawn. As I tried to find a way to save it, I stumbled across his knight and a quick game. Now why couldn’t that last round have gone this good?

Normally, I report on what happen this past week at the Colorado Springs Chess Club. However, I was overcome with a virus and did not send out the newsletter or attend the chess club this week.
