Silver Fox

Game Of The Week

This week's game comes from the Colorado Springs Chess Club's Sunday night online events.  We have been meeting online since April of last year when the pandemic closed our physical location.  The registration starts at 6pm, and the first round starts at 7pm, mountain time.

The nice thing about these events is that they will run themselves.  The computer will handle all the tournament director tasks from closing the registration right at 7pm to making the pairings with only players who are online at the start of the round.  Also, it will hand out the prizes immediately.  Of course, the prizes are only virtual medals, but I have been tracking them since we started last year.

Now that the Olympics have started, it seemed appropriate to remind everyone about our medal count.  This chart is also on the home page of the Colorado Springs Chess News website.

The club found a secondary location for some over-the-board chess at COATI on 514 S Tejon St.  We are currently meeting on Wednesdays at the end of the month for unrated, blitz chess.  Of course, we are also looking into other locations that might be good for rated chess.

This week's game comes from Jeff Fox and Albert Gardner.  Both players had a chance to win and get into medal contention, but both players failed to stick the landing.  Jeff could have pulled into the lead on the total medal count and could have increased his stranglehold on the silvers if he had been just a touch more careful in this position.
