Avoid All Losses

Game Of The Week

This week's game comes from the Colorado Springs Chess Club's Tuesday night event, a Simultaneous Chess Exhibition by FM Joe Friedman.  This is a special event where a very strong chess player will take on multiple opponents at the same time.  The stronger player will still win most of the games.  However, it gives casual players their best shot at beating a chess Master.

This night, eight players took on the Master.  Each challenger had to play as Black and could use any number of passes.  The moves are played without a time limit.  However, the challengers are supposed to make a move when the Master returns to the board.  If they need more time they can request a pass and the Master will skip that board and move on to the other boards.

Since the games are not rated, there is no requirement to keep score.  However, one player did keep score.  So, we can see that the Master doesn't always find the best moves, just the winning ones.  Or, at least, the ones that don't lose.
