Check The Checks

Game Of The Week

This week's game come from the April Swiss 75 on Tuesday night at the Colorado Springs Chess Club.  It was played between the youthful newcomer, Jordan Myers and the old-timer, Dean Brown.  They were close in rating.  So, a draw was not a surprise outcome, but as I looked at the game, it turned out to be a wild finish with both players missing some good opportunities.

One of my least favorite tactics is the one called Intermezzo, an "in-between move."  To me, it is not even a tactic.  It is just finding the best move.

Before Nb3, Jordan fails to see the best move and sets up the mythical intermezzo.  Dean also fails to find the best move and misses his chance to gain material.  See if you can find the right line.
