Game Of The Week
This week's game comes from the club's new event: March Swiss 75. The new part is the time control. It allows 75 minutes for each player to finish all their moves. However, it also adds 30 second per move for each player. So, the game can gain an hour additional time when the players reach 60 moves.
New club officer, Brian Rountree, is notorious for getting into time trouble in sudden death time controls. He is a chess turtle. He can spend hours on just one move. So, he came up with this time control to help him avoid flagging after only a couple of moves.
However, it has not helped. In his first game with the new time control, he flagged. He is now thinking about switching the time control to G75+30 (game in 75 seconds with a 30 minute increment).
Of course, some turtles have seen a benefit. Mark McGough is sailing through this tournament as if he was born for this time control. He has slowly dispatched his first three opponents in a very methodical and deliberate fashion.
Here is his round 2 game where Justice Myers sets up Mark to bring down the hammer.
