Game Of The Week
This week I had a lot of suggestions for the game of the week. Anthea Carson NN crushed me this week at the June Mating Game for her 2nd win over me in 13 tries. She was hoping that I would write up the game to promote her chess videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/TimmyBx).
However, she didn’t tell me which animal opening she used, so I didn’t know which video to promote. My favorite is the crab but that isn’t what she played this time.
In addition, I got a wonderful game from Tim Fisher this week. He annotated a blitz game from back in January where he drops his queen but holds on to win. I do that every now and then in blitz games and send them to LM Brian Wall as Jim Burden Award nominees.
However, I have yet to win the prize, but maybe Tim’s annotations might impress the judge and tip the balance in his favor.
Of course, I couldn’t possibly choose either of those fine selections, as today is Father’s Day. The past 3 years I have posted a loss of mine to my dad as part of his present:
I think it is a nice way to remember him, and it doesn’t cost anything to boot. In addition, I am behind in getting his card out to him so it looks like I forgot.
Well, I didn’t forget. It just took longer to get his surprise together than I expected. I have been collecting some Bobby Fischer memorabilia for him since they share the exact same birthday (3/9/1943), and this is the first year my dad didn’t have his chess twin around to celebrate their birthday together.
So, I asked my dad which win he liked the best, and wouldn’t you know it, he chose the gift I gave to him on the 63rd anniversary of Bobby Fischer’s birth. Happy Father’s Day!
