Game Of The Week
Last year, I published my first game from a Southern Colorado Open. It was a round one game from the reserve section by Allan Ufer. He got the upset prize from that game. Well, when my second round game showed up on the upset list, I thought I might as well keep the tradition going and publish another upset prizewinner from the Southern Colorado Open.
But this year, the upsets just kept coming. In the third round, a bigger upset knocked my game out of prize contention (Thank God! As the loser of the upset, I get none of the prize anyway.) With each successive round, my upset dropped further down the list. So, as bad as I was playing, I no longer had any chance to publish one of my games as an upset prizewinner.
If I were going to be able to keep the tradition going, I would have to get someone else’s game. But as luck would have it, the fifth round saw Tom Mullikin upset the number one ranked reserve player, Renae Delaware. Both of them have had games published on my website before so I figured I had a shot at getting one of their games. Tom is a nice guy and wouldn’t publish the game unless Renae agreed.
So, I went to Renae to see how she felt about it. She made a counter offer of a MN win of hers (if she could get them away from Brian Wall), which I would have been more than happy to publish at this point. As you can see there is a lot of groundwork that goes into getting these games from other people. It is a very delicate procedure. One wrong word, and I could knock someone out of chess forever.
So the upset dream was almost dead. But then, in the final round, Mike Davis scored the biggest upset, I asked him for it, and he said yes!

On June 7, the CSCC had 29 people in attendance. In the USCF-rated matches (G90), Paul Anderson added one to the win column against Tony Telinbacco, Richard Cordovano crushed Dean Brown, and Jerry Maier mauled Joe Pahk.

I think Brian Wall was right. The guest book may have little value. I found out this weekend that not everyone knows how to use the web features or has access to them.
So, I am going to change my philosophy. I still love your comments and feedback, but I will put the public comments in the newsletters (private comment will not be published) so that more people can view them. If you want the guest book kept around, let me know. Otherwise, I will just delete it as I publish the old comments over time:

Southern Colorado Open Prizes
On June 11th and 12th, the Southern Colorado Open was held in Manitou Springs with a prize fund of $1044 and 50 participants. Philip Ponomarev took 1st in the open section, and Eirik Ogilvie won the reserve section. Here are the rest of the prizes:
