Game Of The Week

Well, I am still on a losing streak as far as my recorded games go. I usually only record USCF-rated games and email games. I have 327 of those in my databases. However, I do have a database of USCF’s quick-rated games but most of those overlap with the regular games.
But, now that I have started publishing games online, I started a new database for published games. So, rather than put out another loss of mine, I thought I would kill two birds with one stone, as they say.
I decided to put a game that doesn’t fit into my other database categories into my published database. Now I have a favorite game of mine stored in Fritz and taken care of my goal of putting out a new game each week.
The best part is that the game is one where I won against Colorado Master, Brian Wall, in a simultaneous. He published it before, but I don’t think it got the attention it deserves. I think it was Brian who put the “??” on move 22, but Fritz gave him a couple more.
He let his opponents pick their color and his first move was chosen at random. He said about our game, “I was trying to prove that openings don't matter but I think I failed because one of my two losses went 1 d4 g5?”
However, I think my game actually does prove openings don’t matter since I had thrown away my early advantage rather quickly. But, if my game proves anything, it is that a master can makes mistakes, especially if you can get 20 other people to distract him for you.

This Week In Chess

On Tuesday night, the CSCC had 21 members show up for the ladder games. Members could choose between an USCF-rated, G/90 match or a club-rated, G/30 match. One pairing went off the menu and played an USCF-rated, G/60 match. The match was between the top-rated Buck Buchanan and his closest-rated opponent, Jeff Fox. Buck won the game. In the G/90s, Shaun MacMillan pummeled Paul Anderson, Gerry Sunderland took apart Richard Cordovano, and Allan Ufer upset Andy Chow. In the G/30s, Victor rallied from behind over Glenn Miller, Robert Kohler and Ken Bullard split 2 games, Josh Divine and Gary Frenzel also split 2 games, Renae Delaware toppled Tom Mullikin, Chris McCarty beat Mike Jozwiak 1.5 to .5, and Gary Frenzel outlasted Tom Mullikin.
Announcement Of Tournament Site Change

The fundraiser tournament on April 3 will not be at Prairie Hills School. The accompanying scholastic tournament has moved to Irving Middle School, 1702 N. Murray Blvd, and our tournament has moved with it. Irving has been the home of many scholastic tournaments and the early Winter Springs Opens.
